WildEarth is a dynamic and fast-growing media company and the global leader in interactive LIVE wildlife broadcasting. The WildEarth channel is available on over 25 leading online, satellite, and terrestrial platforms across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa. In South Africa, the WildEarth channel is available on DStv, channel 183.
We are urgently looking for a junior data analyst. As our data analyst, you’ll get to focus on the numbers that make our business tick and on presenting these in a way that creates actionable insights for management and other stakeholders.
Your main responsibilities would be:
- Preparation of regular daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports
- Automation of regular reporting
- Providing assistance with the handling of queries resulting from data reports.
- Creation of dashboards and easy to digest reports using the latest reporting tools.
- Executing deep data dives to surface issues, trends, and actionable insights.
For these activities you will mostly work together with and under the direction of the CTO and Systems Architect.
Our ideal candidate matches the following profile:
- Data Analytics / Computer Science / Mathematical / Statistics degree
- 1 – 2 years’ experience
- A fast learner, with a passion for keeping track of the details that matter
- A creative problem solver with the ability to work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable with using technology; learning how to use new apps, software and tools, including AI
- Experience with data modelling and visualisation applications
- Adept at creating queries, report writing and presenting findings
Specific skills and experience:
- Intermediate or better knowledge of and some experience with SQL and NoSQL data management and queries
- Experience in data cleaning, transformation and preparation
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling and analyzing data
- Good communication skills, with the ability to translate data into understandable insights
- ntermediate knowledge of and some experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Looker/Data Studio, Tableau, PowerBI)
- Advanced knowledge of at least one of Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
- Intermediate or better knowledge of and some experience with database systems (e.g. Postgres, BigQuery, MySQL, MongoDB)
- Knowledge of and experience with Python would be advantageous
- Knowledge of and experience with VBA or Google Apps Script would be advantageous
General position information:
The job is based in Cape Town and is hybrid. We are only looking for people already based in Cape Town. Most days you would be working from home, but - as needed - you would have regular face-to-face meetings with the CTO and Systems Architect who are also based in Cape Town. You would need to have means to travel within the Cape Town area as well as a highly reliable internet setup at home, including loadshedding back up.
As a large part of the work is done remotely, we place a lot of value on effective and proactive communication We’re looking for people who can communicate extremely well across different mediums. Personal accountability and the drive to constantly improve, are key traits you need to have.
