Location Information (Hybrid):

This role will report to our Shanghai China office serving our global Lab Automation business unit. We offer a flexible hybrid working arrangement of office and remote working. Our group designs, manufactures, and installs robotic solutions globally to help our major customers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields accelerate their drug discovery and synthetic biology research. How you will make an impact:

As an Automation Specialist, you play an important role in the implementation of custom automated laboratory projects. This will be achieved through applying Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Momentum™ Automation Workflow software and will include testing & problem solving of automated robotic systems integrated with specialized instrumentation to defined specifications. By gaining an understanding of the customer’s lab workflows, you will optimize the processes to operate in the most efficient and consistent manner to help deliver reliable quality results.

What you will contribute:

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate with multi-functional project teams that include the customer, Project Managers, Integrators, Designers, Software Developments, to plan and develop an ETO solution to achieve the agreed requirements
  • Work closely with the customer to ensure workflow requirements are fully understood and documented
  • Provide suggestions and highlight any concerns to the team including Designers, R&D Software/Hardware, and Project Managers
  • Participate in peer training among the Integration Teams
  • Share feedback to the Operations and R&D teams to help drive and implement continuous improvements
  • Lead and/or assist in developing standard protocols and methods for software integration

Technical

  • Research and develop automated customer workflows in advance of installations
  • Install and configure software required to operate the automated systems
  • Teach movers and multi-axis robots using company's market leading software and products
  • Test and tackle any issues to successfully achieve site acceptance test (SAT) approval
  • Optimize robot/mover motion and workflows for efficiency and consistency
  • Provide basic training and familiarization of the automated system to the end customer users
  • Ensure systems are integrated according to best practices and defined standard operating procedures

How will you get there?

Education:

  • University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical, or related field of study

Experience:

  • 5 years’ automation integration experience with hands-on teaching & setup of robot arms
  • 2 years in a role directly collaborating with customers in a professional environment
  • Experience integrating or servicing laboratory instruments considered an asset

Knowledge & Skills:

  • High proficiency in electromechanical problem-solving techniques
  • Strong software and networking understanding
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organization, planning and time leadership skills
  • Professional presence
  • Proficient English and Mandarin speaking and writing skills

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Passport
  • Ability to travel 50 - 75% of the time domestically & internationally without restrictions
